This is another one of those Topps Now cards I jumped on right away. Brandon Phillips, the longtime Reds All Star second-baseman has spent all season at Pawtucket, playing for Boston's Triple A team. He was called up as one of the September call-ups to provide some depth off the bench. In his very first game with the Red Sox, the Braves were winning 7-1 until the Red Sox came back to tie it in the 8th inning. The Braves took the lead again going in to the ninth and led 8-7. The team had a runner on when Phillips came to the plate and crushed a two-run home run to win the game.
I was pretty sure Phillips was not going to show up in any sets this year, so after he hit that home run, I knew there would be a Topps Now card. I also knew, I was going to grab it.
Just watch as he finds himself getting a base card in 2019 Topps Series 1 now.
ReplyDeleteSidenote, my post highlighting the Torrens vs Lin similarities just went up this morning.
DeleteI saw that and really enjoyed it. Thank you.
DeleteIn regards to Phillips, I could totally see that happening. I am still on the lookout for Ian Kinsler, who has yet to appear anywhere. He will probably be the one to not show up.
