The Worst Red Sox Team of All Time Pt. 9: Ed Gallagher

Failure is often even more fascinating than success. I am definitely intrigued by the 1932 Boston Red Sox, the worst Red Sox team of all time. The team finished with a record of 43-111, for a winning percentage of .279 and very little went right.
There is very little information about today's player.  Ed Gallagher played very little organized baseball.  He never played in the minors at all, yet somehow made it to the Majors.  His Major League experience consists of just nine games.  And that is it for Gallagher's career.

The lefty pitching Gallagher started the game in his Major League debut, but lasted just an inning and a third, giving up five earned runs to the St. Louis Browns.  After that, he had a couple of decent games out of the bullpen, but more often than not was shelled.

Gallagher started three out of his nine games, but pitched atrociously in all three games.  His final line for the season was 0-3 with an unsightly 12.55 ERA and a seriously ugly 28 walks in 23.2 innings and just six strikeouts.  It is not terribly shocking that this was his only Major League experience, although he was just 21 years old in 1932.

And so, that was it for Ed Gallagher.
