On September 11, 2018, the Red Sox clinched a playoff spot by beating the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 7-2. Topps Now issued this card featuring three players who are not highly represented in my Red Sox collection. And so, of course, I had to grab it.
On the left, we have Eduardo Nunez who mad some sparkling defensive plays from the hot corner and singled. In the center is Brock Holt who made a rare appearance at first base and who homered while pinch-hitting for Sandy Leon in the game. Holt, incidentally, just hit for the cycle last night, the first time that has ever been accomplished in the postseason. It was the second cycle of his career, joining Bobby Doerr as the only players to do it twice with the Red Sox. Finally, on the right is first-baseman Steve Pearce, who tripled.
This game also featured Chris Sale's first game back from the disabled list. He pitched just one inning.
