Opening Day 04/01: Red Sox 8 (1-0) Yankees 2

I have been looking forward to this day for a long time.  I love the start of a new baseball season.  Knowing that the game would be on TV at noon today, I decided to take the afternoon off to watch the Red Sox play the Yankees in New York.  I finished up with a couple of court hearings by 10:00 and ran a few errands then ran home.

Jon Lester started the game and, even though he was not as good as he was in Spring Training, he was just good enough to take the victory.  Jackie Bradley Jr. made his Major League debut and was impressive in drawing three walks, making some good baserunning plays, and a terrific defensive play.  Jacoby Ellsbury, Shane Victorino, Dustin Pedroia, Jonny Gomes, and Jose Iglesias all had multi-hit games.  Finally, the bullpen was impressive, in particular Koji Uehara who mowed down the Yankees with a five pitch inning.

All in all, it was a great game for Opening Day.

PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Jacoby Ellsbury: (3 for 6, run, 2 RBIs, 3B)
