Total Wave 7

I have not been buying every Topps Total Red Sox cards.  I should be, but I have been focusing more on the players that are not very prevalent in other sets.  That is the great thing about Total.  Lots of players with no other cards.  Here are the two Wave 7 cards:

1.  Marcus Walden.  This marks Walden's first appearance in a set since 2018, despite having a very good season in 2019.  Walden appeared in update sets for Topps and Topps Heritage in 2018 as a rookie card.  He pitched in 70 games last year and had a record of 9-2 with a 3.81 ERA, striking out 76 batters and walking 32 in 78 innings pitched.  This year was not nearly as impressive, as he pitched in 15 games with am ugly 9.45 ERA.  This could be his last season in Boston.

2.  Collin McHugh.  This could very well turn out to be a zero-year card.  McHugh signed a low-risk contract and was coming off of an injury.  McHugh had been a very good starter in the past and then converted into a reliever.  It was hoped he would be able to solidify the pitching staff.  Unfortunately, he was not making the progress he hoped and so he decided to sit out the season.  Since he signed just a one-year contract, it seems likely he will not be back.  But it might be a good idea to try to bring him back as a low-cost option to eat innings.

  1. I wouldn't mind seeing McHugh resign with the Sox on another pillow contract.
