Jeter for the Red Sox

 Meet Jeter Downs:

Downs was the big prospect the Red Sox received in the Mookie Betts trade, and this is the first card I have seen of him in a Red Sox uniform (whether or not it is photoshopped, I do not know).  Downs is, of course, named after the legendary Yankees shortstop and plays shortstop himself, though it is more likely that he will be moved to second base, both due to his abilities and because Boston has Xander Bogaerts at short.  He has developed some decent power the last couple of seasons in the minors and was expected to play in AA and maybe get the call to AAA this year.  That of course didn't happen with the lost minor league season, but he has been playing at the Red Sox alternate site all season.  He could still get a call-up next season.  He is currently either the #2 or #1 prospect in the organization, depending on which source one checks.  I am looking forward to seeing him in Boston because he will be the big test in determining whether the Betts trade works out or not.  We already know Alex Verdugo is a very good player.  If he and Downs can play All Star-caliber baseball, this trade is not so bad.

  1. Nice card, but was this the "something big" that you said was coming?

    1. Good lord, no. That is several posts away and still in transit. Trust me, it's worth the wait.
